The Razor Blade Tape Measure Multi-tool was invented by myself, Peter Wagner. I am a Professional Mechanical Design Engineer with over 20 years of detailed design and product development experience.
One day, while working in my garage cutting some 2 x 4’s, I measured out a length and wanted to draw a square cut-off line. But I couldn’t find any of my carpenter’s squares. I wished that there was a tape measure that had a built-in carpenter’s square. Inspired by a recent Transformer’s movie, I imagined a square arm that shot out a couple of feet and then I tried to make one.
After considerable development and several rough prototypes, I came up with the Razor Blade Tape Measure Multi-tool. The original invention also included a laser line, virtual carpenter’s square and level. As part of the Industrial Design process, the design was simplified, improved and reduced in size.
